PlastfriPVC (Vinyl)
Petro-synthetic
High plastic. Polyvinyl chloride — the most environmentally contentious plastic in fashion.
What pvc is
PVC — polyvinyl chloride, or vinyl — is the most environmentally contentious plastic in fashion. It shows up in cheap faux leather, rainwear, shower curtains, inflatables, and shiny coated fabrics.
Its production and disposal chemistry (chlorine, plasticizers, dioxins when burned) draws criticism beyond the usual microplastic concerns, which is why several brands have phased it out in favor of PU.
How Plastfri scores it
PVC scores 100/100. Where a listing says only “vinyl” or “PVC-coated”, keyword estimation applies and the score is marked “(est.)”.
The same weight applies everywhere: a product's score is the percentage-weighted plastic share of its listed fiber composition, and every weight is public.
