What faux leather is

Faux leather is a plastic film — polyurethane, or PVC in cheaper versions — laminated onto a fabric backing with the grain embossed on. Vegan leather, pleather, leatherette, and “PU leather” all describe the same construction.

Emerging plant-based leathers (cactus, mushroom, apple) still rely on PU binders in nearly all current commercial versions — often half the material or more by weight.

How Plastfri scores it

Faux leather scores 95/100. “Vegan leather” and “PU leather” keywords trigger high estimates (90–95, marked “est.”); a listed composition such as “100% polyurethane” scores from the actual fibers.

The same weight applies everywhere: a product's score is the percentage-weighted plastic share of its listed fiber composition, and every weight is public.
