What modal is

Modal is a second-generation viscose made from beech pulp — softer and stronger when wet than standard viscose, which is why it is common in underwear, sleepwear, and drapey basics.

Like viscose, it is cellulose, not petroleum plastic: it biodegrades, and its shed fibers are not microplastics. Processing chemistry and forest sourcing remain the things to watch.

How Plastfri scores it

Modal scores 10/100, the same small processing weight as viscose. Blends score by composition, so a modal-elastane mix still shows its synthetic share.

The same weight applies everywhere: a product's score is the percentage-weighted plastic share of its listed fiber composition, and every weight is public.
