What viscose is
Viscose (rayon in the US) is regenerated plant cellulose: wood pulp dissolved with carbon disulfide and re-formed into fiber. No oil, no polymer synthesis — the finished fiber is chemically similar to cotton and biodegrades in months, not centuries.
Its honest concerns are elsewhere: carbon disulfide is hazardous for factory workers when unmanaged, and irresponsible producers have been linked to old-growth logging. Certified fibers (FSC, EcoVero) address much of that.
