Polyester
Petro-synthetic
High plastic. The world’s most-worn plastic. Made from PET — the same polymer as soda bottles.
What polyester is
Polyester is polyethylene terephthalate — PET, the same polymer as soda bottles — melt-spun into thread. It is the most produced fiber on earth: over half of all new textile fiber is polyester, which is why it dominates fast fashion, activewear, linings, and home textiles.
Every wash of a polyester fabric sheds plastic microfibers, and the fiber itself never biodegrades. Cheap, wrinkle-free, quick-drying — and permanent.
How Plastfri scores it
Polyester scores 100/100: fully synthetic, petroleum-derived, persistent. A product’s score is the percentage-weighted plastic share of its listed composition, so a 65/35 poly-cotton blend scores 65.
The same weight applies everywhere: a product's score is the percentage-weighted plastic share of its listed fiber composition, and every weight is public.
